Art of the Photobook

Location: CPW in Kingston, NY

Art of the Photobook is a 15-week course photography course combining CPW’s Photobook I: Photobook Dummy and Photobook II: Project to Press classes taught by Adrianna between 2024 and 2025. Whether you are advancing an ongoing project, drawing from a forgotten archive, or initiating a new art-making practice, this class offers a rigorous approach to book-making that will significantly expand both understanding and application.

  • Learn the history of the photobook and its current place in the photographic arts

  • Participate in critiques of your work within a small cohort of photographers

  • Learn how to pair and sequence your work

  • Discover your unique language of photography through narrative

  • Create a photobook dummy

  • Learn about photobook materials: papers, binding, printing, stitching

  • Photobook layout and design

  • Creating PDF’s and preparing files for press

  • Special guests, including photobook published artists and a publisher

Three finalized books printed on CPW’s Digital Press. You keep 2, and 1 will be placed in CPW’s Book Press Archive. This course will culminate in a presentation of books in CPW’s Community Gallery during the summer of 2026.

WHAT TO BRING: Prints, digital images, hard drives, or wherever your ideas and images are stored. Participants will eventually be tasked with identifying their preferred text and cover papers and will supply their own paper for printing.
